Qatar Gas Exploitation
Three Times More than Iran

Deputy Oil Minister Ahmad Qaleh-bani says that at present Qatar is tapping gas at South Pars three times more than Iran, adding that all the investment should be made for development of South Pars and no money should be spent on unnecessary sectors.

Addressing a ceremony to introduce the new managing director and bidding farewell to the former head of the Special South Pars Economic Zone, the deputy oil minister said at present the role and influence of the development of oil and gas industries in the development of the country is undeniable. He further noted that under the status quo oil and gas industries are the most revenue generating industries in the country.

Qaleh-bani who is also Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), stressed that Iran, like other oil and gas rich countries, should spend its oil revenues on development of industrial infrastructures. He said currently the Islamic Republic of Iran possesses the largest hydrocarbon reserves in the world. He stressed that at present oil revenues are not optimally utilized for the development of infrastructures and stressed that with the execution of the law on targeted subsidies, there has been a great amount of saving in energy carries.

He pointed to the need for a more satisfactory execution of the second phase of the law on targeted subsidies and said with the implementation of the law energy consumption in the country was optimised and indulgence was prevented.

Referring to the fact that Iran's exploitation from joint oil and gas fields is not satisfactory, he said at present Qatat is tapping gas 2.5 to 3 times more than Iran from joint reserves at the South Pars.
