Iran-Tatarstan Oil, Gas Cooperation

The Zagheh oil field is located 25 km from the port city of Daylam and 6 km from the Persian Gulf coast.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov on the sidelines of a ceremony to sign an agreement to develop Zagheh oil field, said this is not the first time he is visiting Iran. "I have been in Iran several times and this time too I hope I can forge cooperation with your country more than ever."

The Tatar president further stated that at present heavy oil is being extracted in his country and as a result Tatarstan has gained experience in exploitation of heavy oil.

The memorandum of understanding for development of Zagheh oil field was signed between Iran's Oil Engineering and Development Company and Russia's Tatneft in the presence of Minnikhanov and Rostan Qassemi, Iran's Oil Minister.

Through signing this memorandum, a daily production output of 7,000 barrels from Zagheh heavy oil field would become possible in the first phase and in the second phase the figure would jump to 55,000 barrels.

A first oil well was drilled several years ago but was later abandoned and the National Iranian Oil Company now plans to collect further information about this heavy oil field by drilling a second well.

At present three-dimensional seismic operations, data processing and analysis and also PSTM and PSDM processing operations have been conducted for the development of Zagheh heavy oil.

The Zagheh oil field is located 25 km from the port city of Daylam and 6 km from the Persian Gulf coast.

The agreement for the development of this field would go into effect between Tatneft Company and Iran Oil Company of Kish with the financing of TAT Bank of Iran.
